Upcoming Novel Explores Racism and Police Violence

Writer: Mark M. BelloMark M. Bello

In recent years, deadly police shootings of unarmed citizens have shocked the conscience of our country and sparked fervent national protest. The vast majority of these cases have involved young African-American men.

Freddie Gray, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, and Antwon Rose were all unarmed black men shot to death by police officers. All were robbed of their right to life by men or women duty bound to protect them.

Is there a "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality in law enforcement? Police officials contend that their officers are color blind, that in these cases, there was no other choice. To the African-American community, the evidence suggests otherwise.

Betrayal in Black, the fourth novel in the Zachary Blake Betrayal series, pays homage to the victims of these tragedies. This gripping novel closely examines the shooting death of an innocent black man, the consequences to those caught up in the aftermath, and whether Black Lives Matter to police forces in modern America.
